Herman Miller, a company with more than a decade of history, is responsible for bringing a lot of advancements into the modern furniture world, one of them being the iconic Aeron chair. Designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick in 1994, the Aeron was included in MoMA's permanent collection before it even went into production.

There have been years of research and development since the 70s, when Bill Stumpf joined the Herman Miller research team, that led to the basis of multiple office chair designs by this innovative company. Stump's studies of different human body shapes and sizes and how a seated position could aid comfort and natural movement was one of his main criteria in creating an entirely new ergonomic design and engineering, first seen at the Ergon chair.

Later on, the brief the two designers took on was to create a chair that was supportive and inclusive to the human body as well as high performance and environmentally thoughtful; this wasn't an easy task. The result was a chair like no other. The materials weren't the usual fabric or leather and foam but the use of Pellicle, a unique elastic, breathable mesh-kind material that allows air to go through and offers custom full-body support.

The Aeron chair comes in three sizes to cover all body heights, and is fully adjustable to follow the body movements when seating. It is 94% recyclable and manufactured using 64% recycled materials. Also, it comes with a 12-year warranty, which says a lot for its quality and durability.

In 2016, it was remastered by co-designer Don Chadwick with a purpose not to change its original look and design but to make it even better following years of research on materials and technology as well as further exploration of 'the science of sitting'. As they put it in the latest Herman Miller brochure, this was "The evolution of an ergonomic revolution."

When the Aeron was created, its unconventional design, like everything pioneering, thought possibly to be a risky move. However, the Aeron, a chair known by its name, has passed the test of time and feels like it's made specifically for you.

If you haven't tried one, it's never too late.
